Is it Time?

What signs to look for when you know it might be that time to move to an assisted living community?

    • Memory loss – forgetfulness, can wander from home.
    • Lack of appetite – doesn’t remember to eat, when eats it’s not a balance meal, lacks proper nutrition.
    • Mobility problems – hard to move around, fear of falling and needs assistance with everyday things.
    • Lack of socialization – not as social as used to be, prefers to be left alone, doesn’t look out after him/her-self, poor hygiene.
    • Medication concerns – not remembering to take needed medications.
    • Fear and depression – doesn’t acknowledge a need for assistance, no interaction with others.

Moving into a senior living community can be positive if your loved one has experienced any of the above mentioned signs. Many communities offer short-term or respite stays for you to get an idea of what it’s like to be part of a community. We encourage you to take advantage of that if you have any uncertainty above moving. By being a part of a community, many residents experience a positive change through medication management, nutritious meals and socializing with your peers. At Orchard we focus on providing families with a piece of mind they need when their loved one moves to our Atalanta community.

So Many Communities to Choose From

With so many options, how do I choose? When you tour communities, meet the management and more importantly meet the everyday staff. Many times you are able to tell the type of care your loved one will receive based on your observation of the staff. Are the employees happy? Do they smile? Or do they looked burned out? Try the food, is it freshly made or was it frozen?

Below you will find an evaluation tool developed by The Assisted Living Federation of America to help you get all the answers you are looking for before you choose the community that’s right for you or your loved one.
